Northern Ireland: this 4 day short break makes me want to know more of you. I loved the green hilly landscape, the mountains, stunning coastline. Your biggest asset: your friendly people! Thank you so much for your warm welcome! I hope to come back!
Reykjavík; the capital city of Iceland. Here we end our amazing 2 week holiday / road trip. We drove 3,043 kilometres before reaching this amazing city. We leave our rental car behind and discover Reykjavík by foot. Amazing wall art, sculptures, architecture and more… Rekjavik has it all!
From Reykjanes we drive through West, North and East Iceland and now we are in the South! South Iceland has an awful lot to offer. We visit glaciers and glacier lakes, find diamonds on the beach, see seals, visit stunning waterfalls, geysers, hot springs and so much more…
We are halfway through our road trip in Iceland. We have covered Reykjanes, West and North Iceland and still have a week to go. East Iceland to me is tranquil and peaceful. Canyons, forest, beautiful fjords, fishing villages and a lot of orange lighthouses to see for this lighthouse freak!
We are travelling clockwise through Iceland. After Reykjanes and West Iceland we are now in North Iceland. To me this may be the most beautiful part of the country. Stunning fjords, road blocks by horses, whales and lots of waterfalls!
From Reykjanes we drive to West Iceland. There is simply too much to see; you can spend an entire holiday just in this area! We visit the famous waterfalls of Hraunfossar and Bjarnafoss, drive around the Snaefellsness peninsula and go for a 4WD adventure on the Haukadalsskarð pass.
Finally I get to go to Iceland. A gift to myself for my birthday. Together with a dear friend I will drive around Iceland for 2 weeks starting with the beautiful Reykjanes Peninsula. It is an amazing start of the best holiday ever!
Myanmar: a country that was not on my bucket list. When I got the chance to go, I took it took and had the most amazing trip ever.
From former capital Yangon to magical Inle Lake, from Inle Lake to mountainous Kalaw, from Kalaw to ancient kingdom Bagan and from Bagan to Mandalay.
Myanmar should be on everyone’s bucket list!
The most visited city in Greece may be Athens, the capital but the city of Thessaloniki for sure is worth a visit just a much.
Thessaloniki has so much to offer; the city is full of history, culture, art, adventure and good food. It was the perfect location for a reunion with the Full Moon girls.
Part 4: this is the last part of my 2 week Cyclades island hopping holiday. Santorini is probably the most touristic island, but how could it not be?! When you arrive by ferry you are in the middle of the caldera. You see the amazing cliffs and the picturesque mountain villages of Fira, Imerovigli and Oia on top. It is a stunning sight! Time to discover Santorini!
I am halfway through my 2 week Cyclades island hopping holiday. The third stop is Naxos, which is the biggest island of this island group. Naxos does not have a port for cruise ships, the airport is also limited to what of tourist can come in, but that means you will not find mass tourism here.
Naxos: if I win the lotery, I will move back to Greece and find myself a nice place to live somewhere on your west coast ;).
Read part 3 of my Cycladic adventure.
I continue my Cycladic adventure: Paros, Greece!
I started my 2 week island hopping holiday in Mykonos. From there I took the ferry boat to Paros. I absolutely fell in love with this lovely island. I also managed to visit Antiparos, only a 7 minute ferry boat ride away from Pounda.
Part 1 of My Cycladic adventure: Mykonos, Greece!
In 2 weeks I travel from Mykonos to Paros, from Paros to Naxos and from Naxos to Santorini. The Cyclades are like no other islands in the Mediterranean and each one has its own identity. I absolute loved being here and know I have to go back someday, because there are many islands left to discover.
Mykonos was a great place to start my journey. White churches, Little Venice, famous windmills… and more!
Christmas in Essen: thousands of lights, about 250 stands with Christmas decorations, delicacies, hand crafted items, gifts… glühwein and so much more. If you want to get into the Christmas spirit, then Essen is a great place to do so!
In 1993 I had my first holiday outside of Europe; a road trip through Florida. Now, 24 years later, I return together with Astrid, with whom I had a ball with back then. This time we visit the Gulf Coast and have the most relaxing holiday!
Finnish Lapland in winter is truly a magical experience; a bit like being in a fairy tale. Going for a husky safari in a winter wonderland landscape was one of my highlights during this holiday.
Expidition Cyprus: from Pafos in the west, we travel via the Troodos mountains to Lemesos and Larnaka and end in the east at Cavo Greko. Cyprus is an underrated holiday destination, which really has it all (sun, seach, beach, nature, culture history, good food en wine).
It is the most wonderful time of the year. And that shows especially in Germany. Christmas markets can be found all over the world, but in Germany you find some of the best Christmas markets in the world. We go to Cologne/Köln this year!
The Netherlands are more than Amsterdam, Windmills and dykes. Make sure you take your time to explore. In the north lie the beautiful Wadden islands. Texel is the biggest one and the easiest to reach. Nature, beaches, plenty to do and see, good food and beer: Texel has it all!
The Alentejo lies between the Algarve and Costa de Lisboa. It is a part of Portugal that I do not know much about. But this is going to change after this trip. We get a great introduction to the region that deserves more attention. This trip is winederful and in wonderful company .
The last part of this trip we spend in Limpopo, the poorest province in South Africa. But Limpopo has the most friendly people, I have never felt so comfortable and welcome! In Vaalwater we enjoy the wildlife at Kololo and Welgevonden and in the area of Louis Trichardt we get acquainted with the Venda and Tsonga culture. This northern part of South Africa is one big surprise to me.
We left Johannesburg and go north towards Magaliesburg. The landscape changes as soon as we leave the city. Magaliesburg and the surrounding area have a lot to offer, like The Cradle of Humankind and Sterkfontein Caves. The Magaliesberg mountain range is great for adventure seekers!
When I visited South Africa for the first time in 2012, I fell in love! The world in one country, as South Africa is known, gets under your skin and you will always want to go back to this immense, diverse and colourful country. This adventure starts 3 years later, in the city of Johannesburg.
We have travelled From mainland Malaysia to Penang and now we end our trip in Langkawi. In this part of the country we find paradise. What a great way to end a fantastic trip!
Malaysia part 2: Penang. We cross the Straight of Malacca by bridge. The island is totally totally different from the mainland. Tropical beaches, high rise hotels, lots of Chines influences and history. Let’s see what Penang has to offer!
Malaysia: to me you are a different kind of Asia: a country so diverse, you have so much to offer in so many ways. And the food: just delicious! From mainland Malaysia to Penang and Langkawi. What a trip!
A short “rail away”break in Switzerland. To me this trip is an early birthday gift (the best gift this Lucky Traveller could wish for). Travelling through Switzerland by train is an amazing experience! Nothing beats the Swiss Railway system…
Ireland, the land of 40 shades of green. A country so beautiful, friendly people, culture, history, amazing landscapes and of course Guinness 😉
I am on a 2 week road trip trough the Republic of Ireland and guess what: the sun is shining most of the time!
Part 3 of an amazing educational trip to South Africa. Cape Town is vibrant, friendly and diverse. The Cape Peninsula is stunningly beautiful, Chapman’s Peak Drive one of the best drives in the world. A perfect ending to an incredible trip.
Part 2: fom Knysna to Cape Town. We drive the Garden Route, along Route 62… it is a complety different South Africa from the north where the trip started. On this part of the journey I discover who is my partner in crime/wine and I get inspired by the good work being done in and around the townships!
It is about 3pm. I am sitting at my desk, booking a holiday for a client, when my boss comes out his office and asks: do you want to go to South Africa tomorrow? Are you kidding me, I ask? No, he’s not! All of a sudden I have to rush home to pack my suitcase.
Norway, famous for its fjords, mountains and waterfalls. But the country has so much more to offer, as I find out during this amazing trip in the land of trolls.
Welcome to Scotland says a big sign when we enter the border at Hadrian’s Wall. The land of the impressive highlands, haggis, bagpipes, kilts and a beautiful green scenery. Travel with me on this short, but amazing trip to Scotland.
Vienna: a classical and baroque city that takes you back in time. But Vienna is also a city that over the last few years has become hip and trendy. To me Vienna is one big pleasant surprise!
